The Dovecote Tearooms, Kirk Michael

I’d heard great things about The Dovecote Tearooms so was very excited to visit but genuinely wasn’t expecting it to be somewhere that I could promote as child-friendly. I often find tearooms just aren’t the place to bring children, however, The Dovecote Tearooms is certainly somewhere we will be returning to!

Access into the tearooms is easy as there aren’t any steps to get into the cafe but there are two steps to access a second room of the cafe. The cafe is quite small but you should be able to find space for your pram if you have to take it in with you.

The cafe has three wooden highchairs which are a good height for children to reach the table but the one we used didn’t quite tuck under the table enough – this is where a ‘catch-all‘ bib comes in handy.

I was thrilled to see a really reasonably priced children’s menu with a ‘tiny tots special’ for £3.50 which includes a sandwich, crisps, a glass of cordial or milk, some cucumber and tomatoes and some chopped fruit. To make me even giddier (yes, I’m that sad!!!), Millie’s lunch arrived on a malamine tray and she was so excited that I didn’t have time to get a photo before she grabbed a sandwich and took a bite.

The food was really tasty and the cakes were absolutely delicious. If you haven’t yet been, you must make sure you leave room for cake – or take one with you!

The cafe has one small toilet (there are a couple of steps to access the area the toilet is in) so I was a little worried that they wouldn’t have any baby changing facilities. I asked a member of staff and was taken to a store room where you can use a changing mat (or you can take the changing mat into the toilet). It isn’t ideal but at least they’ve got somewhere you can go.

The tearoom also has a variety of local handmade items for sale. I love supporting small businesses and bought some eco-friendly food wraps made by a company called ‘Bee-Co‘ (I shall write about these in another post. Spoiler alert: I love them!).

We loved it here and I can’t wait to come back!
