Brulot Bar & Grill @ Comis Hotel

The Comis Hotel is located on Mount Murray Road, on the opposite side to the golf course and might not be somewhere you would typically consider to go for lunch but I think you might reconsider once you’ve read about it and seen the very fun play area they have within the café / restaurant!

ACCESSIBILITY

The Comis Hotel has plenty of free parking and lifts to each floor so is very easy with a pram. The staff at reception are very friendly and will offer directions to the lift or stairs. Once you’re out of the lift, follow the signs for the Brulot and you’ll soon see the sofas,  restaurant and play area.

CHILD-FRIENDLY

Downstairs, outside the Brulot Bar and Grill, is a lovely large area with comfy sofas and an enclosed children’s play area with a playhouse and slides. There is a little table with some games like giant connect four and giant jenga to keep the little ones entertained. They even have three ginormous bears just waiting for a cuddle. The play area is for guests of the hotel or people visiting the Brulot Bar and Grill (see below for pictures).

There are baby-changing facilities (in the accessible toilet) within the lounge area/play area which include a drop-down changing table.

FOOD AND DRINKS

The menu includes a large range of food from soups, steaks and burgers to salads, ciabattas and open sandwiches. Allergens such as gluten, dairy, nuts and shellfish are highlighted on the menu. Main meals vary from £7 up to £30 for the T-bone steak so there are a few options depending on your budget.

The kids’ menu is good value at £6.60 (prices correct as of Feb 2021) for either sausages, burger, fish goujons, chicken goujons or mozzarella sticks served with new potatoes or chips and peas or beans and all include a dessert of banana split ice cream sundae. I’m not going to lie, I used the excuse of forgetting Miss P’s (8MO) baby lunch to order a children’s meal and share it with her but I did think it was one step too far to have the ice cream sundae as well so decided to decline the offer! Really regretted it on the journey home though…!

SUMMARY

All the staff I spoke to were incredibly helpful and friendly. The waitress within the Brulot went to get us an extra highchair, made a fuss of the babies and when we cleaned the floor of the HUGE amount of mess the babies had made, were told not to worry about it and insisted that she would do it when we next visited. Of course, I will always clean up Miss P’s mess but to have a member of staff say they are happy to do it makes you feel so welcome and that they are happy to have babies and children in the restaurant!

If you’re after somewhere for lunch with lots of free parking, friendly staff, tasty food and a play area for the kids, then you need to check out the Comis Hotel.
