The NSC café has been around for a long time but it’s called the Aqua Café and is under new management as of July 2021 (the same people who have Bradda Glen Café and the Café at the Sound) so we thought we’d head over for a skeet!

Access into the swimming pool is super easy with a pram as there’s a ramped access (left hand side of the building) and revolving doors meaning you don’t have to struggle with entering the building backwards and using your arse or super stretchy arms to manage both door and the pram (or is that just me that tries to turn into Elastigirl every time I use a door??!). The café is on the same floor as the entrance – past reception and straight ahead. It’s big enough and the tables are spread out well meaning it’s easy to find a table and park the pram up.

Food & Drinks

I was really pleased to see a dedicated children’s menu with a great range of food at affordable prices including a fruit platter (£2), pasta (£4), soup (£3), cheesy toast (£3) and chicken chunks, chips and peas (£4) as well as other items. The adults menu is equally well priced with both breakfast and lunch items starting from £4 for an egg mayo sandwich up to £8 for falafel, roasted sweet potato and sun dried tomato cous cous. The fact Aqua Café serve iced coffees means it has been added to my list of favourite cafes… think I’m a tad obsessed!

The staff here are super friendly and helpful – they’re full of smiles and spoke to both of my children which is something that always makes me feel welcome.

Changing Facilities & High Chairs

The changing facilities can be found between the café and reception area in the accessible toilet and consist of a drop down changing table and plenty of space for the pram if you needed to bring it in.

The Aqua Café has plenty of highchairs which you can either use with the tray or without as they’re a great height for the tables. They also got straps so you can try your best to tie down your little Houdini.

Activities for Children

There is colouring and crayons available for the little ones and the NSC itself is host to a range of different activities for children such as holiday sports schemes, Jumping Jacks (bookable term time one hour soft play sessions for children under 4 years on  Tuesdays and Thursdays), Fitness Zone gym (for children in years 10 and 11) and of course, the swimming pool and leisure pool! Healthy, accessible and reasonably priced - what more can you ask for? We'll definitely be back to try more. They have also started swimming parties with food at the café afterwards!
