With a name like New Cod on the Block, we obviously had to visit and after a day at Onchan Park, it seemed like as good a time as any. Previously Fryers Fish and Chip Shop, it changed it’s name in April 2022 and is located in Village Walk, Onchan. You can sit in or take your food away, we opted to sit in.
Access
Village Walk has a good, free car park with plenty of spaces and the chip shop is is accessible via ramps to the bottom row of shops etc (next to Dominoes). There is plenty of space inside for prams/strollers with no steps to cause any issues.
Food & Drinks
It’s a chip shop so quite obviously there are lots of chips but what we loved about it was there was a specific gluten free menu. One of our family is always struggling to find a chippy where they can eat due to being gluten free but New Cod on the Block had a great menu catering specifically for him.
The kids menu was your usual but comes with a drink and ice cream (if you sit in) and ALL can be made gluten free if needed. It was a pretty big portion, so my two (5 & 2) shared one and they were happy to bring a spare plate over.
Changing Facilities & High-Chairs
There is an accessible toilet with drop-down baby change out the back, as well as a standard one too so you don’t have to feel like you’re holding up the line! They also have five wooden high-chairs at our count.
Activities for Children
We found some colouring and activity books with crayons for kids to play with which entertained our eldest for a little while. Always nice to see something for them to do!
